Mindful Fermentation: Sauerkraut Class
Chef Melissa shares one of her favorite DIY passions - fermentation! Fermentation can sound intimidating but it’s actually incredibly simple and easy. During this class we learn to transform a simple cabbage into a flavorful, health supportive and long lasting kraut using the power of salt, time, and mindful intention!
VIRTUAL ZOOM CLASS INCLUDES:
A mindful meditation for grounding and connection
An introduction to the science, history and health benefits of fermentation
Interactive sauerkraut making with knife skills demonstration
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Large Glass Jar with lid (ideally a wide mouth quart)
1 head of Cabbage (organic if possible ~1.5lbs)
Sea Salt (or other non iodized salt)
Weight (ex: ceramic fermentation weight or small 1/2 pint or jam jar - note: a chunk of vegetable can also be used in a pinch)
Sharp Knife and Cutting Board
Extra Large Bowl
Optional:
Other vegetables (e.g. carrot, green onion, radish)
Flavor add-ins (e.g. garlic, ginger, herbs, spices)
Kitchen scale
Fermentation lid
Note: The sauerkraut will be ready to eat after 1-3 weeks & will require daily monitoring for the first week.
